SBS Contracts Manager, Lee Rodgers has announced that he'll be taking part in a fund-raising boxing match to raise funds for a children's cancer charity.
The bout will take place in November. Lee's chosen charity is Hallam FM's Cash for Kids. He has set up a fund-raising page on the Cash for Kids website, and is hoping to secure at least £1000 in donations. Anyone wishing to contribute can visit the page here.
Explaining his decision, Lee said: "I’m raising money to support Hallam FM's Cash for Kids in South Yorkshire so they can make a real difference to the lives of local children and young people. I specifically want to help children with cancer. My wife has recently been through a cancer scare, which led to major surgery, and I just wanted to do something positive.
"I go to a boxercise gym and whilst my wife was going through her ordeal, this was the one place that took my mind off it for a while. The gym's owner, former European boxing champion Ross Burkinshaw, has been doing white collar boxing events in conjunction with Cash for Kids for the last three or four years, and has raised about £16,000 for local children.
"I have decided to do the next one in November and have asked specifically for any money I raise to go to help children with cancer. If anyone want to support me, I would really appreciate it if they would make a donation to this fantastic charity. I've no idea how much I'll raise but I'll keep upping the target as it goes on. "
Donations from SBS, colleagues and supply chain partners have helped Lee to make a good start but further donations would of course be welcome.
