Success in Stoke

SBS is approaching the end of another successful scheme; this one for Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The work began in summer 2019 and came via Lot 3 of the council's General Building Works contract.

The scheme featured works on a variety of different property types on the Weston Coyney Estate, including four blocks of flats, 2- and 3-bedroomed semi-detached houses, and 1- and 2-bedroomed bungalows. The improvements varied by property but included:

  • Asbestos removal
  • Re-pointing
  • Re-roofing and flat roof renewals
  • Loft insulation
  • Renewal of rainwater goods and building plastics
  • Replacement external doors
  • Screen-wall repairs
  • Renewal of external lighting
  • Replacement kitchens and bathrooms
  • Installation of hardwired smoke alarms
  • Installation of kitchen and bathroom extraction fans
  • Painting and decoration.

A further 16 bungalows on one street in the same estate required a range of improvements. The properties on each side of the road have different archetypes. One side required energy efficiency measures including replacement windows and external wall insulation with a silicone render finish. Associated works included the replacement of flat roofs; soffits, fascia and gutters; and some shed doors and gates.

Properties on the other side required lesser maintenance works, such as roof repairs and roof cleaning, together with the renewal of soffits, fascia and composite cladding. Work also included the painting and decorating of timber gates and store doors.

All works have been completed on budget and on time, with a 100% hand-over success rate.
