SBS chair Derek Horrocks to Speak at CN RE:NEW 2025 on strategic retrofit and Net Zero goals
We’re excited to announce that our chair and owner, Derek Horrocks, will be speaking at the inaugural Construction News RE:NEW Retrofit in Focus 2025, taking place this November.
About CN RE:NEW 2025 and the UK retrofit challenge
A brand-new conference dedicated to tackling one of the UK’s biggest climate challenges, CN RE:NEW will bring together leaders across housing, construction, engineering, and government to explore how we can accelerate the pace and scale of building retrofit. With 80% of the buildings that will exist in 2050 already in use today, the need for bold, coordinated sustainability action has never been more urgent. This event provides an important new platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and innovation as we work towards the UK’s 2050 net zero goals.
An industry leader in large-scale retrofit
Derek will be joining sector experts for a key panel session exploring the need for systematic retrofit approaches across both residential and public sector buildings. The discussion will focus on how more strategic, joined-up thinking can help address some of the sector’s biggest challenges – from improving operational performance to delivering long-term sustainability across entire portfolios.
As a respected voice in the industry – chairman of our parent company Sustainable Investments Ltd, the National Home Decarbonisation Group, and the National Insulation Association – Derek will bring his experience in delivering retrofit at scale and engaging with government on funding, procurement and policy. He will join a panel that also includes Kingsley Clarke of the Southern Construction Framework and Eoin Quiery from the London Borough of Waltham Forest, contributing to a rich discussion around how we can make retrofit a truly transformative process for communities.
Speaking ahead of the event, Derek said: “This is an exciting new platform at just the right time. We need to shift from project-by-project thinking to a whole-portfolio, community-wide mindset. I’m looking forward to joining forward-thinking professionals from across the sector to explore how we turn retrofit from a challenge into a long-term opportunity.”
