In November 2021, Denbighshire County Council wrote to SBS to confirm the award of Lot 1 of its Council Housing Major External Repairs scheme for 2021/22.  The works will comprise repairs and energy efficiency improvements to a total of 50 occupied council dwellings in Rhyl, North Wales.

Works will typically entail the installation of replacement roof coverings, rainwater goods, facias and soffits, together with external re-rendering, re-decoration and the re-pointing of brickwork.

Energy efficiency measures will include external wall insulation, and the installation of PV panels, battery packs and sensors.

Additional works will include the replacement of soil stacks, above-ground- drainage and external doors to outbuildings. Finally, they will also include repairs to structural roof timbers, masonry and chimneys.

The project is expected to take around 20 weeks and was awarded via a mini-competition under an existing council framework. Award criteria included cost and quality, with particular reference to Covid safety measures, training and community benefits, amongst other factors.

“This award builds on a long-standing relationship with Denbighshire County Council,” said company director Gary Lawson. “It also extends our already very long track record of delivery in North Wales more generally. We’re delighted to have won this scheme, which is one of an increasing number that are combining repairs with energy efficiency retrofit measures. We’ll be using all our experience to deliver valuable housing improvements for many local families.”
