On Tuesday 12th February, SBS staff attended a special public event in Derbyshire, organised by Rykneld Homes to mark the completion of the thousandth property to be fitted with external wall insulation.
Towards the end of the ECO2 programme, we managed to secure additional funding from the energy company E.ON to support an extension to the original scheme. (See our previous post for details.) As a result, we have been able to treat 172 of the properties in a single phase.
Since then, work has progressed well, at a good pace and with zero defects. Rykneld Homes celebrated the completion of property number 1000 with a special event, during which SBS staff presented the tenant with a bouquet of flowers.
"We're delighted to be taking part in today's event," said SBS Group Commercial Director Gary Lawson. "We've built up an excellent relationship with Rykneld Homes, and this has been central to the speed and success of this scheme in Grassmoor.
"We've worked very closely with Rykneld Homes right from the earliest design stages, developing insulation systems and finishes that best suited the needs and character of the properties. We also had valuable technical input from the system designer, PermaRock Products, and the results of this collaboration speak for themselves.
"Detailed design work and intelligent planning have allowed us to make great progress on site, as this milestone proves, but the work has also delivered really important energy efficiency improvements for residents. The external wall insulation will mean significantly reduced heating bills and warmer, more comfortable homes for hundreds of local families.
"We've maintained open communications with residents throughout the scheme, and they have given us some wonderful feedback. We have a dedicated, full-time team and a resident liaison officer based permanently on site, and they've had all sorts of positive comments about how the work has improved people's homes and uplifted the appearance of the whole neighbourhood.
"It's a project that has caught people's imagination and I'm pleased that we've not only delivered ECO-funded improvements for council tenants but also for a number of private homeowners. Energy efficiency improvements ultimately benefit everyone, so we're looking forward to working with Rykneld Homes to deliver many more."
