On 15 November, SBS chair Derek Horrocks will be one of the guest speakers at the NRLA Landlord Conference, which will be held at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

In his capacity as chair of the National Insulation Association, Derek will provide landlords and other property professionals with an insight in to the role of the NIA and the practicalities of improving energy efficiency within residential buildings. He will discuss a variety of retro-fit options and the steps involved in designing, installing and funding them.

His presentation will emphasise the importance of taking a fabric-first approach to energy efficiency. It will also consider the benefits that insulation affords for both tenants and landlords.

We often discuss retrofit in the context of social housing but the private rental sector is also a large and crucial provider of accommodation across the UK. In light of government proposals that landlords should raise the minimum EPC standard of their properties to band C by 2025 (for new tenancies), it’s clearly important to explain the available options in terms of energy efficiency measures and funding mechanisms.

The full conference programme can be seen on the NRLA website. This includes a list of speakers and their chosen topics. The site also provides information about booking places at the conference, and how to join NRLA as a member.
