SBS is currently working as a specialist EWI installer on two tower blocks and a new-build retirement village in Nottingham. The scheme involves fitting PermaRock solid wall insulation to two existing 14-storey tower blocks - Winchester and Woodthorpe Courts - and to a collection of newly built residential properties.
The new development between the towers will be known as Winwood Heights and will comprise 44 apartments and communal facilities. The properties are owned by Nottingham City Council and managed by Nottingham City Homes. The £11m scheme as a whole is being managed by Fortem (formerly Willmott Dixon) and the solid wall insulation work is due for completion in the early part of 2019.
The tower blocks will feature an unusual but colourful 'patchwork' design, with blocks of colour overlying PermaRock's non-combustible mineral wool insulation and weatherproof render. PermaRock technical staff have been providing on-site support and conducting ongoing inspections to ensure strict adherence to the specification.
Upon completion, the properties will also boast new energy efficient glazing and improved heating systems.
Collectively, the new and refurbished properties will provide 224 one- and two-bedroom apartments for older people, who will also be able to take advantage of 'assisted living' support, as required.
Winchester and Woodthorpe Courts are the latest in a series of more than 20 high rise properties treated by SBS in the last few years. Like all those recently undertaken, the installations will be backed by a 25 year SWIGA guarantee.
