We’re pleased to have been appointed to deliver two major energy efficiency programmes across North East Derbyshire, strengthening our long-standing partnerships with Rykneld Homes and North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC).

The projects, worth a combined £15 million, are being delivered through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 (WH:SHF) and the new Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG). Together, the programmes will see hundreds of mixed-tenure homes across the district benefit from major energy efficiency upgrades over the next three years.

An area-based approach will ensure that both social and privately-owned homes receive improvements, which will help to cut carbon emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and improve health, wellbeing and comfort for residents.

Our £10.4m programme with Rykneld Homes will target almost 400 social homes across the district, with a fabric-first approach that includes external wall insulation, cavity wall and loft insulation, solar photovoltaic systems, window and door replacements and air source heat pumps.

The works aim to significantly boost the energy efficiency of properties that currently fall below an EPC rating C, building on the strong foundations laid during our recent £21m Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2 scheme with the housing provider.

Our regional director Daniel Owens said: “Being appointed to deliver this scale of retrofit in North East Derbyshire is especially rewarding given our long-standing relationship with Rykneld Homes and the local council. We understand the local housing stock and community and have built foundations that will ensure trustworthy and efficient delivery from day one.

“These programmes enable us to continue making a real difference to people’s homes, health and energy bills, while contributing to local net zero goals and creating skilled jobs in the region. It is a fantastic opportunity to build on everything we have achieved here over the past decade, so we can’t wait to get started.”

Niall Clark, deputy managing director at Rykneld Homes, said: “You only have to look at our track record of work with SBS and the partnership we have developed, to understand the difference we’re making in the region. SBS has worked extensively in North East Derbyshire, holding vast experience in the retrofit sector and vital knowledge of local housing.

“Through various schemes, we have improved thousands of homes with an approach that prioritises customer engagement, as well as high quality results and service. The contractor’s values align very closely with our own, making this appointment an easy decision as we look to quickly mobilise our upcoming retrofit programme.”

Alongside our work with Rykneld Homes, we are also proud to be delivering a £5.1m programme for NEDDC, funded through the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG).

This programme will focus on improving energy efficiency for more than 300 privately owned and rented homes identified as being at risk of fuel poverty. Many of these homes are among the least energy efficient in the district.

The measures installed across both programmes are designed to reduce energy demand and transition homes to clean, low-carbon heating sources – supporting local climate goals and national net zero ambitions.

Both contracts have been awarded to us through direct award under EEM’s Property Improvements and Decarbonisation Works Framework, recognising our expertise and consistent delivery of large-scale PAS-compliant retrofit projects.
