In recent years, SBS has carried out numerous works for Wrexham County Borough Council, the most recent of which has been the newly completed re-roofing and external insulation scheme at Plas Madoc.
However, SBS staff have remained on site because, as the last scheme was finishing, so we received confirmation that we had won additional new contracts in the same area and for the same client.
The first is a new external works programme that involves making environmental improvements to around 90 local properties. The work is split into two lots and may include additional phases later on. It is expected to last approximately two years in all. We won the schemes on the basis of an open tender. Lot 1 will entail the renewal of fencing and the replacement of concrete paths, together with drainage works and the installation of metal fencing. It will also include tarmac works, brickwork and general groundworks. Lot 2 comprises work linked to the repair and renewal of garden boundaries, particularly retaining walls.
The second new contract is a re-roofing scheme in nearby Tegid. Procured through Wrexham CBC's Roofing framework, it will entail full roof replacements on 28 properties; a mix of houses and two blocks of flats. Early enabling works have already begun, including scaffolding and asbestos removal. The scheme is expected to run until the middle of February 2020.
On 21st November 2019, to mark the completion of the previous EWI scheme, and to celebrate the start of the new environmental works, Wrexham CBC and SBS organised an open evening at the local leisure centre. Here, staff met with members of the local community to explain the works that will be taking place. The session was enlivened with food and refreshments, sponsored by SBS, and face-painting for the children.
Later the same month, Wrexham CBC announced that SBS had also been successful in its bid to deliver a further EWI and re-roofing scheme in the village of Ruabon, which is close to the Plas Madoc estate. Valued at £1.4 million, the scheme will involve making improvements to approximately 70 properties. Procured via the client's Roofing and External Wall Insulation framework, it is due to start shortly after Christmas.
"November has been an excellent month for our continuing relationship with Wrexham County Borough Council," said SBS's Senior Business Development Manager Robin Evans. "We've had teams working in and around Wrexham for some considerable time now, all helping to make steady improvements to people's homes, neighbourhoods and living conditions. We're proud of what we've delivered so far, and delighted that we'll be doing even more in 2020."
