SBS is part way through the delivery of an energy efficiency scheme in Calderdale, carried out on behalf of Places for People. The work entails replacing storage heaters and hot water cylinders in various properties in the West Yorkshire town of Elland, just south of Halifax. It also entails full bathroom replacements including the installation of new showers over baths. Related works including tiling, flooring, plumbing and electrics.
The work, which began in January 2019, will help the tenants to make significant savings on energy bills and should also help to reduce water consumption.
This is the latest in a series of schemes delivered on behalf of Places for People. The relationship began with the DREEAM energy efficiency demonstration project in Padiham, which we previously reported. The £2m project entailed making multiple energy efficiency improvements to 108 properties, including the installation of solid wall insulation and solar PV panels.
Following the success of the pilot scheme, Places for People commissioned SBS to deliver three further projects. The first took place in Clitheroe in Lancashire and entailed fitting new gas central heating to 20 properties, together with the installation of new weatherproof render.
Next came a 50-property refurbishment scheme in Bristol, where SBS installed showers over existing baths. SBS also undertook some tiling works and replacing hot water cylinders and storage heaters.
The Halifax project is the latest in this series and work is expected to finish in April 2019.
