CONTINUING our rapid expansion with a people-first approach, we’re pleased to announce we’ve been shortlisted for two Investors In People Awards, demonstrating the effort and commitment we put into our teams as well as our clients and residents.

As well as the Employer of the Year Award (50 – 249 employees), we’re also thrilled to have been shortlisted as one of the finalists in the Award for Learning and Development (up to 499 employees) category. This rewards our substantial work with apprentices, who currently make up more than 12% of our workforce, with an aim to raise this to 15%+ in the next three to five years.

On top of this, we also make sure to offer additional training and upskilling opportunities to our team members, sub-contractors, and wider supply chain, through Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) funding, Think Construction, The Retrofit Academy, and our sister company PermaRock Products Ltd. In the past eight months alone, we’ve been able to upskill or promote an impressive 40% of our team and have supported more than 50 operatives achieving at least NVQ level two qualifications in the past year.

Derek Horrocks, our owner, said: “As well as gaining invaluable experience on the job, we are committed to supporting our apprentices through their studies with in-house support, training and mentoring. We know the importance of engaging with new talent in the industry, because they’re the ones driving it forward – and will be the ones leading it one day.

“We’re massively proud to have been recognised by Investors In People for our work to raise our people. At the core of our values is a people-first approach, which drives how we do business – but naturally that also extends to our own people. We want to make sure we are helping each and every one of our team to reach their potential, which is a responsibility we take very seriously.

“As we continue to grow, being able to offer meaningful qualifications and practical experience will remain a cornerstone that we build our business on, providing a way forward and a way to progress with SBS.”

Gary Lawson, our managing director, added: “At SBS we have a number of core values that we consider as pillars to build upon everything we do, whether it be approaching our mission to decarbonise the UK’s housing stock, or taking care of our own. Seeing these values gain recognition by Investors In People is hugely rewarding.”
