On 22nd November, SBS staff visited Rhyl town hall in North Wales in support of a jobs fair organised by Working Denbighshire, the Department for Work & Pensions and Denbighshire County Council.
The event, which ran from 10am to 1pm, afforded an opportunity for residents to meet with local employers in sectors including retail, care, hospitality and, of course, construction.
SBS has a long history of delivering major energy efficiency works in North Wales, and has offices in the region, so it has a well-established presence as a local employer. In recent years, it has created numerous jobs for operatives, surveyors, administrators and staff in many other roles.
At the event, assistant site manager Rhodri Owen met with local job-seekers to explain the skills that SBS typically needs, and the roles it generally has to fill. He also explained the various routes into training and employment that are available – KickStart, apprenticeships and more.
SBS has previously delivered numerous schemes for Denbighshire County Council and currently has a place on the Denbighshire External Major Repairs framework. Previous examples have included frameworks covering re-roofing, re-rendering, and external wall insulation. Much of this has been carried out in Rhyl and neighbouring districts such as Corwen and Ruthin.
“It was a very successful event,” said Rhodri. “We made contact with a number of potential employees and we’ll keep them informed of any new vacancies. We also started new discussions with local companies and charitable foundations; links like that can always be useful with a view to future collaboration.
“We were very happy to support the event. As a business, we never lose sight of the positive social and economic impacts that our work can have – the jobs we create and the skills that we help people to develop. These can help to produce lasting change at a community level; changes that are as important as the physical improvements that we make to people’s homes.”
