On 24th May 2012, representatives from SBS went to the National Motorcycle Museum in Coventry to appear in the 2012 Wates Group National Supply Chain Awards.
As a well established supplier to the Wates Group, SBS was one of many companies nominated for the quality award and its directors were delighted to learn that it was one of just five to be shortlisted.
The Wates Group hosted the awards for the first time this year in order to recognise what it described as the "tireless efforts" of its principal UK suppliers in helping to provide the company's clients "with best value during times of economic turbulence." By working more closely with a smaller number of trusted suppliers, Wates has been able to secure greater certainty on costs whilst also benefiting from shared lessons on best practice and thereby ensuring that quality standards have been rigorously maintained.
The ceremony was attended by over 300 members from Wates' supply chain and the proceeds from the event – amounting to more than £17,000 – went to support the work of Wates' nominated charity, Barnardo's.
At the event,SBS narrowly missed winning the top award but was one of just two suppliers to be cited as "highly commended."
Thanking SBS for its impressive efforts over the course of the last year, Wates' Group Production Director Rod Stewart said: "Congratulations on securing such a very good result at the awards. I was delighted to see such a strong response, and feel very sure we now have even more visibility of our strongest performing partners."
Dave Oates, Supply Chain Director for Wates Living Space, commented: "The awards initiative was largely motivated by our desire to further integrate our suppliers into Wates and for them to see themselves as an extension of our business. We want our whole supply chain to see how appreciative we are of the commitment provided to us and the effort taken to go that extra mile for our clients. We hope the recognition offered to the winners will serve to increase their market appeal and empower them to maintain their competitive position."
SBS is currently working on a number of large projects for Wates, including a multi-million pound external insulation project involving several large tower blocks in Glasgow.
